Perhaps the most obvious difference between Fallout 4 and the rest of the series is that its color palette contains colors other than brown, grey and green. In a behind-the-scenes video, Fallout 4 director Todd Howard assured that this change is purely cosmetic and that the Fallout universe remain as dysfunctional as ever.
"Looking back at [Fallout] 3, there's this sameness to the environment. If you're playing the game for an eight-hour stretch, it can be a little depressing," argued Howard before assuring that the game "actually [has] a part of the world we call 'The Glowing Sea,' which is where the bomb falls. That looks more like your classic Fallout 3 wasteland, but even more-so."
