As Fortnite continues to pull ahead of its biggest battle royale rival, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Epic Games is gunning hard to keep it that way, with plenty of new content on a regular basis. The third season of the game is the next big update that's expected, and it will introduce an entirely new way to play it: in space.
At least, you'll look the part. Season 3 will introduce space-themed cosmetics with rewards dolled out to those who win, but also those who play the most. Anyone who purchases the season pass will be granted a bunch of content up front too, so if you want to be one of the first with all the new outfits, you know what you have to do: whip out that wallet.
For those who were hoping for some new map elements, weapons or functional changes to the game, those will be coming throughout season 3, but the launch will only introduce the new cosmetic items and the new Battle Pass. Sorry.
Much like the way Valve handles its yearly DotA 2 compendium, Epic's Battle Pass system for Fortnite gives you access to a bunch of content straight away, but also lets you get more from unlocking by playing the game. Levelling up, effectively, will get you new outfits, weekly challenges, and more.
For those who don't want to do that and just want everything straight away, you can pay for the privilege. As Polygon points out though, it's not cheap. To buy your way to the top you need to spend as much as $150, but then if you don't want to play the game, why are you playing the game in the first place?
If you hate this kind of pricing, remember that the game is entirely free. Other games, like Battlegrounds, have loot boxes and a full price tag.
