John Romero's New Game Is Blackroom John Romero's New Game Is Blackroom

Last week, John Romero teased that he was working on a new FPS. Today, he started a to fund its development.

Developed by id Software co-founders John Romero and Adrian Carmack, Blackroom is a "a visceral, action-packed FPS set in a holographic simulation gone rogue." The game takes place in a world where holographic simulations started bleeding into the real world and exposing people to "depraved and terrifying aberrations" in "environments that players might not expect in an FPS."

Blackroom is a hardcore FPS with focus on skillful movement with moves such as rocket jumping, strafe jumping and circle strafing. The game's weapons are also balanced so that each weapon would have one specific use. The most unique utility in Blackroom is the Boxel device which allows the player to control the simulation itself and perform feats such as temporarily stopping time and seeing through walls.

The Kickstarter campaign's funding goalis $700,000, with additional funding support coming from unnamed partners if that goal is met. At the moment of writing, the campaign collected more than $110,000 with 30 days to go.
