Like me, most of you have been PC gaming long enough to have experienced the first eye bleeding screenshots that the original Crysis gave us. Crysis Warhead and Crysis 2 didn't have quite the same splash surrounding its visuals, even though they were impressive, but Crysis 3 has that feeling in spades. You know, the one where you go, "wow, look how far PC games have come."
Of course we said this with Half Life 2 in 2004 and with Unreal in 1997 and back and back, but they're still interesting moments as we take stock and intake a little breath at how our brains can be tricked into thinking we're looking at a photograph. It's still not there and we're likely a decade or so away from anything that will really make you question what you're looking at, but the machine of progress is slowly edging in that direction.
Thanks to VG247 for this batch.
Which do you guys think is the most impressive? I might have to go with the first one myself, of the bald guy handing over the pistol. The original Crysis made big steps with the way the faces looked, including the additions of facial hair and wrinkles, but when zoomed out a bit, that dude looks like he's very real indeed.
