Samsung has a massive new display in the works which could be the most immersive gaming display ever yet put together. It uses the rare 32:9 aspect ratio to display its enormous 5,120 x 1,440 resolution and has a large base to support its 1800R curvature.
Ultrawide displays have become increasingly common in recnet years, as they offer a wraparound effect -- especially when curved -- that isn't achievable with multi-monitor set ups, as those have a large bezel-line in the middle of them. Samsung is reportedly putting a lot more effort into that type of panel development in the next few months, and the new, huge ultrawide is just the first step on that road.
The 49-inch display will be an upgrade of its existing CHG90 display. It will increase the resolution from the previous 3,840 x 1,080, which is a sizeable jump and will add a lot more detail to gaming experiences, as well as additional screen real estate for productivity's sake. With full support for Freesync 2, the new monitor will have a refresh rate of 120Hz, though that is actually a slight reduction on its predecessor's 144Hz.
Still, at those sorts of resolution, not many systems will be able to run a game at 144 frames per second anyhow and 120Hz is perfectly acceptable for high-speed gaming. Few would notice much of a difference between the two.
Elsewhere in its new rage, TFTCentral reports that Samsung is working on a new 43.4-inch panel with a 3,840 x 1,200 resolution and 144Hz refresh rate, as well as a 34-inch model with a 3,440 x 1,440 @ 144Hz VA panel for smaller monitors.
These new displays will debut in the coming months, with the latest releasing sometime in September.
