Several high profile Japanese gaming industry leaders such as Hideo Kojima have spoken of the Japanese industry being surpassed by the West in terms of both publishing and development strength.
During his speech at the Tokyo Game Show 2008, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada expressed his opinion that the Japanese developers and publishers must work together if they don't want to fall further behind their Western counterparts.
"We should consider some sort of 'Japan Alliance'," he suggested. "It's not forcing everything into a single corporate brand. The ideal is a holding company under which several companies and brands can hang."
