Nintendo Labo was a surprise release from Nintendo, combining its Switch console with cardboard, string and all sorts of stickers and colors to create bizarre controllers that actually work rather well. It leverages a console in a fashion that has only been seen before in the hands of extremely creative individuals with lots of time and determination. But what if you give those same people a fully crafted Labo kit or two and see what they make of it?
That's exactly what Nintendo's recent Creation Contest was all about, asking homebrew developers the world over to craft unique projects using the pre-built Labo kits and any accessories they wanted to add. The results have been quite spectacular.
A solar powered, Switch-driven accordion is certainly a unique starting point and it was only possible because of Nintendo's "ToyCon Garage," which gives basic programming tools to Labo users to create much more nuanced Labo inventions than they would have with just the hardware alone.
But that wasn't the only instrument. This Labo Piano also took home an award for its intricate styling.
