Surviving in Battle Royale games can involve a lot of communication, but it's not necessarily life or death, especially if you're working solo. In SoS, a new Battle Royale game currently in the works, it will be far more important than in titles like Fortnite or PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.
SoS is a game of survival with up to 15 other players, much like other Battle Royale games. Where it gets interesting, is that you don't have to just kill everyone. In SoS, at the end of the game up to three of you can escape. Which three, however, will be up to you and the other players.
Can you make some friends along the way? And will you betray them before the end?
On top of competing with your fellow players, trying to find allies among them, you'll be trying to stay alive against the dangerous sapien inhabitants of the island you're confined too, whilst delving deep underground and into ancient temples to uncover treasure and other riches.
When you've found some of these relics, you signal the helicopter to escape with a flare. In the process, though that draws the dangerous animals and other players to your location, prompting big firefights as you try to escape.
The people behind this game, at Outpost Games, are all industry veterans, as PCGamer points out. The question is, is this game different enough to standout in the increasingly saturated survival/battle royale market?
What do you think?
