You can teach a man to fish in next Manor Lords update

The old adage about teaching a man to fish rather relies on there being places to fish — and soon, players of Manor Lords will be able to rely on fish as a means of keeping their villages going, as the next update will include fishing ponds. However, don't expect it to come any time soon.

News in brief

  • Next Manor Lords update will contain fishing ponds
  • Will take a while to arrive though
  • Should make avoiding starvation easier

The news came to us from Manor Lords developer Greg "Slavic Magic" Styczeń's Twitter account, and is typically low-information. The tweet reads "Working on fishing ponds for the next update since it was requested a lot" alongside a lovely picture of a pond, complete with reeds and trees.

Fishing is likely to be a big deal for a large number of players, as it adds another option for food gathering to a fairly barren pile. At the moment, players can hunt for meat or forage for berries, and with the addition of fishing, players will finally be able to provide everything the original Age of Empires managed to offer in the 90s. Variation of food (and amount of it) is important to keeping villagers happy in Manor Lords, and just as important is not starving to death, so ensuring there are multiple ways to get food is vital for any Manor Lords playthrough. It will also add another item for trading, giving established villages a way to secure an income.

Don't hurriedly boot up your Steam account though, as the update isn't anywhere near to being ready yet. "A few weeks" is the current timeframe for completion, so you've got some time to wait until the update is rolling out. This certainly doesn't mean Styczeń is swinging the lead by any means; his dedication to updating Manor Lords has been admirable, and while some criticism has been leveled at him, it's pretty clear his dedication is not in question.
