Steam Summer Sale begins tomorrow, get your wallet ready

If you have any money left over from the GoG.com Summer Sale, then it's time to hide it away somewhere safe, because the Steam Summer Sale is just around the corner. Confirmed by Paypal and Valve itself, we now know that the Steam Summer Sale begins as soon as tomorrow, June 22 (thanks PCG).

As is common around this time of year, Steam was expected to launch its annual summer sales period, which offers massive discounts to gamers of all shapes and sizes. While ostensibly a great way to pick up a few much-wanted games at a discounted price, it does come with its own stresses. Do you buy all of the games you want now while they're cheaper, knowing you won't play them for a few months, or perhaps ever?

At least we no longer have the stress of daily deals to worry about. What once was occasional heavier discounts on games, that kept people checking to see if the game they were hankering for the most had been discounted even more on one particular day, now there are just flat, top-end price drops for the whole sale.

But that does still leave people's wallets and purses quivering. Fortunately, if you live in the UK and use Paypal you can save a little bit of extra money. Alongside its early announcement of the sale, the online payment platform confirmed that using its service to pay for a game will net you an extra £5 off your first purchase if you spend over £20.

That's not a bad deal really. Especially if you're only planning on buying one or two games in particular. It's not clear if the deal extends to the U.S.
