A fan-made expansion for Baldur's Gate 3 promises to bring at least six new, fully-voiced companions, including two new animal friends.

Baldur's Gate 3's Path To Menzoberranzan campaign is the biggest fan-made expansion yet, created using the game's modding tools. It will feature a new player character and six to eight new, fully-voiced companions, according to lead writer Thomas Loughling in an interview with Video Gamer.
Two animal companions will also join the new lineup, says Loughlin:
"We have a version of Scratch… we’ve got a couple. He [another developer, Lotrich] prefers one, I prefer another one, but they’re pretty cool."
Screenshots for the in-progress campaign show off some of the new areas players can explore, including Athkatla, from Baldur's Gate 2. We can also expect the drow city of Menzobarranzan, located in the Underdark, to make an appearance once the expansion launches. The Cowled Wizards from BG 2 are set to return, too, with players able to purchase a magic license from the wizards that enables them to cast fireballs and other spells in the magic-banned city of Athkatla.
No launch date confirmed yet, but a demo is coming soon
Speaking of launch dates, the team is keeping that to themselves for now, but has promised a demo will be available in the spring. Following the launch of cracked mod tools last September, the Baldur's Gate 3 modding community quickly jumped on the custom companions bandwagon, so this is something we can expect to see more of in upcoming mods.
