Riot is working to put the s back in Riot Games

Riot Games is known for one game and one game only, League of Legends. That title has been monstrously successful and even nearly 10 years on from its release, it's still considered by most to be the king of MMO games. But Riot has grander ambitions than that and plans to release more games in the near future.

Looking to put the "S" back into Riot Games, company co-founder Marc Merrill said during a recent interview with Variety that Riot was looking to create a bunch of new games and that he hopes that within five years, Riot will be known for more than just League of Legends.

Those games may target specific niche genres too, potentially being small releases initially that go after very specific audiences.

"Like with League of Legends we’re not going to try and please everyone or do things even oriented to a mass market," he said. "We think of League of Legends as a niche market that’s really focused."

Following player desires may mean that League is working on a Battle Royale game of sorts, but that would be underwhelming if true, as that genre has been relatively saturated already and even a company like Riot would be playing catchup. One rumor PCGamesN highlights is that Riot could be developing a 2D fighting game, which would certainly come under the banner of niche in today's gaming climate.

Reportedly there are several titles in the works though and with the backing of Tencent and years of stellar financial growth, Riot has all the resources it needs to create just about anything it wants.

What game would you like to see come out of Riot in the near future?
